Outdoor & Nature
Sit back, get cozy, and experience this cool first-person POV tour of downtown Newport. Youāll catch an eyeful of all the important stuff and know the town better next time you pass through. And itās high-def 4K.
Whooo is up for a night hike? Meet one of Audubonās amazing birds of prey in person! Come to the Fisherville Brook Wildlife Refuge for a presentation on owls while enjoying locally brewed beers. Then take a guided walk through the wildlife refuge AT NIGHT to look and listen for owls and whatever else lurks about. No kids for this one, though. BTW, The owl illustration is hilarious.
Free Sunday Guided Bird Walk - Norman Bird Sanctuary. This one is for NEXT weekend, but you can plan ahead. Bright and early, meet in the parking lot. Very simple and beautiful little event.
š OK so āfull moonā hikes are officially a thing. Roger Williams parks has one for Friday night. Itās the last one of 2024!
Food & Drink
āļø āCozy Autumn Fires and Tasty Treatsā at Blithewold. Enjoy very non-low carb autumn afternoon by the fire: chairs, sāmores, cocoa, cider, next to low-smoke fire pitā¦and a SPECTACULAR view of the Giant Sequoia.
This sounds fun and festive! Wine, spirit, and beer tastings, food trucks, farmers & makers markets, gifts, entertainment at Bottles Holiday Farmers & Makers Market. You know the Eastside Marketplace that just closed? Right there, in the parking lot.
A good, old fashioned, āpainfully wholesomeā (as the OP puts it), holiday event. The āCandy Cane Bazaarā and āGiant Raffleā are full of everything you might want to buy or eat in North Scituate. St. Joseph Parish.
Apple Ciderā¦but itās the last of it. Last weekend for āApple Cider Bar.ā A pretty good prelude to a stroll along the Cliff Walk. (Bring a windproof coat if you do the walk!)
10 WJAR video of how to make, get this and remember it, āCranberry breakfast BREAD PUDDINGā. Sign me up, like right now.
Distillery tasting tour through White Dog Distillery on Mineral Ave. A fight of whiskey, gin, bourbon or rum, from the self-described āsmallest distiller in the smallest state.ā šø
Arts & Entertainment
The Chorus of Westerly performs Vivaldi, Rutter and Finzi. Winter themed music welcoming in the cold weather and holidays. This weekend only - bring your listening cap.
Dubbed āThe Sistine Chapel of Americaā¦ā Did you know St. Annes in Woonsocket does tours of itās world class / old world art? This, I did not know. Sign me up.
šµ You know the guy on the dollar bill? And that sign in North Kingstown on 1A youāve passed 1000 times? Gilbert Stuart painted THAT portrait of George Washington, and his museum sits on 23 acres on the coast, full of pristine hiking paths. And thereās a super cool old āsnuffā mill - apparently the first water wheel mill in the US.
Amadeus at the GAMM Theatre. So popular itās already been extended. Get tickets, fast, because itās only around for a few more weeks.
I didnāt know this was a thing! The BuyArt show and sale at WaterFire Arts Center has about 30 Rhode Island-based artists are showcasing their work in the gallery at the WaterFire Arts Center for the BuyArt small works holiday show and sale starting this weekend. Amazing holiday gift ideas!
Rhody Moments
STUNNING sunrise over the towers at Narraganset. What a shot.
š¦ The āserviceā duck that went viral at a Providence College basketball game has been BANNED (lol) from the pavilion.
A painting-like sunset last week at Point Judith. Now that sunset is so early, no reason you canāt be in the area for dinner and a great evening photo op, just like this beautiful shot.
Photo of the Week
Thatās it for this issue of the Rhody Weekender. Make the most of it!
See you next week!
